Michael Wagener (* 1966 in Morsbach ) is a German artist and publisher .

life and work

Wagener studied philosophy and art history from 1988 to 1990 at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and from 1990 to 1998 sculpture and photography with Wolfgang Luy at the HfG Offenbach am Main . In 2002 he founded Gutleut Verlag in Frankfurt .

The artist Michael Wagener works with various media - installation, sculpture, photography and image - on the subject of space and the manifestations of space. He mainly dealt with cartography as a form of spatial conception. In this context he came across the cartographer Gerhard Mercator . Unlike today's editions, the very first atlas compiled by Mercator from 1595 offers not just a collection of topographical and political maps: “It is rather a 'world explanation model' that is not untypical for the Renaissance, but also a kind of total work of art in which Science, religion and art merge. "

Michael Wagener lives and works in Frankfurt am Main .
