Michael Weigl (political scientist)

Michael Weigl (* 1971 in Munich ) is a German political scientist.

Life

After graduating from high school in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm , Weigl first turned to journalism. He completed a traineeship at Wolnzacher Anzeiger and then worked as an editor at Donaukurier in Ingolstadt . From 1994 on he studied Bavarian State History, Modern and Contemporary History and Political Science at the University of Munich . In 1999 he obtained his Magister Artium degree . He was at the 2002 Institute of Bavarian History at LMU to Dr. phil. PhD . In 2003 he was awarded the Michael Doeberl Prize for his doctoral thesis .

Until March 2013 he was Werner Weidenfeld's research assistant and head of the Germany research group at the Center for Applied Political Research .

After Werner Weidenfeld left the Geschwister-Scholl-Institut in March 2013 and Klaus H. Goetz succeeded him, Weigl remained as a research assistant at his chair for Political Systems and European Integration. Since October 2014 he has been working as an academic civil servant at the Chair of Political Science at the University of Passau .

His academic focus is on party and election research as well as Bavarian state politics. He also conducts research on issues of identity politics, in particular on German-Czech relations.
