Michail Sergejewitsch Kuzmitsch ( Russian Михаил Сергеевич Кузмич ; born  October 8, 1982 in Krasnoyarsk ) is a Russian luge athlete .

Career

Michail Kuzmitsch has been running luge since 1999 and has been a member of the Russian national team since 2001. The student was initially Obermann in a two-seater with Juri Weselow . Since the 2007/08 season is Stanislav Mikheyev his partner. Kusmitschs first big success was the participation at the 2002 Olympic Games of Salt Lake City where he finished 14th. In the 2002/03 season , the double was 13th in the overall World Cup and at the 2003 Luge World Championships . In the following season they reached the ninth and eleventh place at the Luge World Championships in 2004 from Nagano in double and eighth with the Russian team in the team competition. At the European Championship of the Year in Oberhof they finished fifth with the team.

The 2004/05 season was moderately successful. It got better again in the 2005/06 season . In the overall ranking of the Luge World Cup , Kusmitsch / Weselow finished tenth and ninth in the 2005/2006 Luge Challenge Cup . With the team, they finished fourth at the 2006 European Championships in Winterberg , and came twelfth in doubles. A place better they came at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games of Turin one. At the World Cup opener of the 2007/08 season in Lake Placid , Michejew and Michejew placed 10th in the first race of the season and immediately placed in the top 10. The doubles also achieved the same placement at Königssee . Apart from one race in Sigulda , which they did not finish because of a fall, they finished in the top 15 in all races of the season and ended up 13th overall. At the European Luge Championships in 2008 in Cesana Torinese and at the World Championships in Oberhof , the doubles came in eighth, in the team competition they came in fifth at the European Championships, at the World Championships they just missed a medal in fourth. The Luge World Championships 2009 in Lake Placid, they finished as the Eleventh, the European Luge Championships 2010 in Sigulda as a sixth-place finisher.
