Mikhail Leopoldowitsch Abramow

Michail Leopoldowitsch Abramow ( Russian Михаи́л Леопо́льдович Абра́мов ; born July 6, 1956 in Vladivostok ) is a Russian admiral and former chief of the main staff of the Russian naval fleet . From 2004 to 2005 he was the commander of the Russian Northern Fleet .

Life

Abramov's father was a sea captain , commander of a destroyer and later headed the chair of mine weapons at the Pacific Naval Officer College SO Makarov . His mother worked in a submarine shipyard and later taught at the Pacific Naval College .

Abramov began his military career in 1973 with a degree at the Pacific Naval Officer College, which he successfully completed in 1978. First he served in the Pacific Fleet from 1978 to 1983 as commander of a missile battery , then as a combat section commander for missiles and artillery (GA-3) and first officer . From 1983 to 1984 he attended higher specialty courses for officers of the Soviet naval fleet , after which he commanded the guard ship Retiwy from 1984 to 1987 .

He graduated from 1987 to 1989 with a gold medal at the Naval War Academy NG Kuznetsov . He was then employed as chief of staff of the 71st Dropship Brigade of the Baltic Fleet and then in 1990 was deputy commander of a ship brigade of the Pacific Fleet. From 1990 to 1998 he worked as a division commander of surface ships and chief of staff of the Kamchatka flotilla . From 1999 to 2001 Abramov graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces with honors. After commanding the Primorsk Flotilla of the Northern Fleet as Chief of Staff from 2001 to 2003, he became Chief of Staff of the Baltic Fleet (2003 to 2004). In the following two years he served as commander of the Northern Fleet and replaced Gennady Suchkov, who was released from his duties due to the submarine accident when the K-159 was decommissioned .

From September 4, 2005 he was Chief of Staff of the Russian Navy and first deputy to the Commander in Chief of the Naval Navy. He has been retired for health reasons since July 2009.

In 1992 Abramov commanded a group of the Russian Navy in the Persian Gulf .

Abramov is married and has one son.
