Michal Mareš
Michal J. Mareš (born January 22, 1893 in Teplitz as Josef Maresch, officially Michal Mareš since 1955 ; † February 17, 1971 in Prague ) was a Czech journalist , poet and columnist .
Life
Mareš was born in Teplitz in 1893 as the son of the locksmith's assistant Josef Maresch (born November 15, 1867 in Maschau ) and his wife Katharina Solnař. Since 1910 he participated in the Czech anarchist movement . Later he was a long member of the editorial board of the Prager Tagblatt . After 1919 he left the Catholic Church with his parents and declared himself non-denominational.
After the Second World War he worked for the newspaper Dnešek ( "Today" ). He was briefly a member of the Communist Party (KSČ) but fell out of favor because of critical reports of corruption in connection with evictions and resettlements in the border areas. After the 1948 coup , he was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment and loss of civil rights. He was not rehabilitated until twenty years after his death. Mareš is considered an important contemporary witness and expert on Franz Kafkas , Max Brods and Jaroslav Hašek .
