Michel Visi

Michel Visi (born October 24, 1954 in Ningfire , Ambae , Vanuatu , † May 19, 2007 in Port Vila , Vanuatu) was Bishop of Port Vila in Vanuatu.

Life

Visi came from the island of Ambae in the north of Vanuatu. After his training in Saint Léon de Païta in New Caledonia and in the Suva Catholic St Pierre Chanel seminary with the Marist Fathers , Michel Visi was ordained a priest on December 15, 1982 in Port Vila, Vanuatu . He then studied canon law in Ottawa and was later head of the Suva seminar.

On 30 November 1996 he was the first native of John Paul II. 29th Bishop of the Diocese of Port-Vila appointed and on April 12, 1997 Francis Roland Lambert ordained .

Michel Visi was Vice-Chairman of the Pacific Bishops' Conference (Cepac). He was also a former member of the Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation.

Visi was found dead at his home in Port Vila on May 19, 2007 . According to the press, he played an important role in the fight against corruption in the Pacific region. He was also a mediator in violent clashes and tribal conflicts on the outskirts of Pot Vila in March 2007.
