Michael Leslie "Mick" Jones (born December 27, 1944 in London ) is a British guitarist , songwriter and music producer . He became known as the founder and front man of the rock band Foreigner , in which he still plays guitar to this day.

Life

Jones began his career in the early 1960s as a member of the band Nero and the Gladiators, which had two minor hits in the UK in 1961. After the band split up , Jones worked as a songwriter and session musician for artists such as Sylvie Vartan and Johnny Hallyday before teaming up with Gary Wright , who played with the band Spooky Tooth . In 1973 Jones and Wright reanimated Spooky Tooth, after which Jones switched to the Leslie West Band. He also played guitar on the albums Wind of Change (1972) by Peter Frampton , and Dark Horse (1974) by George Harrison .

In 1976 he founded Foreigner. Together with singer Lou Gramm he wrote almost all of the band's songs and co-produced all of their albums - most recently Mr. Moonlight in 1994. In 1989 he released his only solo album called Mick Jones . Billy Joel and Carly Simon were guest singers . As a producer, he was responsible for recording albums by artists such as Bad Company , Billy Joel, Van Halen and Tina Arena . In 2013, Mick Jones was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame along with Lou Gramm .
