Middenschouwen was a municipality in the Dutch province of Zeeland . It was formed on January 1, 1961 by the union of the four municipalities Duivendijke , Elkerzee , Ellemeet and Kerkwerve . The seat of the administration was in Scharendijke . On January 1, 1997, it was merged with Brouwershaven , Bruinisse , Duiveland , Westerschouwen and Zierikzee to form the new municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland . A year before the dissolution, the community had 2,706 inhabitants (as of January 1, 1996).
