Westerschouwen was a municipality in the Dutch province of Zeeland . It was formed on January 1, 1961 by the union of the five municipalities Burgh , Haamstede , Noordwelle , Renesse and Serooskerke . The administrative seat was in Haamstede. A hamlet called Westenschouwen then belonged to Burgh . On January 1, 1997, the municipality of Westerschouwen was merged with Brouwershaven , Bruinisse , Duiveland , Middenschouwen and Zierikzee to form the new municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland . A year before the dissolution, Westerschouwen had 6,100 inhabitants (as of January 1, 1996).
