Mieczyslaw Minkowski (* 15. April 1884 in Warsaw , † 20 July 1972 in Zurich ) was a in Switzerland acting Polish -schweizerischer neurologist .

Life

Mieczyslaw Minkowski was born in Poland as the son of a Jewish businessman. He completed his medical studies at the universities of Warsaw , Munich and Wroclaw , where he obtained his doctorate in 1907 . This was followed by various training stations.

In 1911 he moved to Zurich, where he later also received Swiss citizenship , and there became an assistant doctor to Constantin von Monakow . After initially working as a private lecturer from 1913, he became adjunct professor in 1926 and, from 1928 to 1954, associate professor of neurology and director of the Neurological University Polyclinic and the Institute of Brain Anatomy at the University of Zurich . In 1932 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . From 1943 to 1946 he was President and in 1949 Honorary President of the Swiss Neurological Society. From 1925 he was also President of the Jewish Association in Zurich .
