In 1952, the Israeli government established Migdal haEmek as a settlement for Jewish immigrants from Iran . The original town center was around one kilometer south-east of the Palestinian town of al-Mujayedil , which was dissolved in the course of the Palestine War and then destroyed by the victorious Israelis , and which had around 2,200 inhabitants in 1948.
Due to the high level of immigration, Migdal haEmek was able to retain its "purely Jewish" character. Almost half of today's residents were born abroad, especially in the former Soviet Union .
