life and work

López entered the Escola de Montserrat in 1678 and was trained there by Joan Cererols and Joan Garcia until 1684. In 1686 he entered the Benedictine order. He continued his studies from 1686 to 1696 in the monastery of San Martín de Madrid . At the same time he worked there as an organist. From 1705 to 1715 he worked at Sanct Benito de Valladollid as organist.

López worked twice, from 1696 to 1705 and from 1715 to 1718, as choirmaster of the Escolania de Montserrat .

López wrote a history of Montserrat in Latin and a non-traditional music treatise. Sacred vocal music with and without continuo accompaniment , some organ compositions, villancicos and some secular cantatas have come from López . His compositional activity was generally aimed at bringing musical innovations from other countries into harmony with his own musical culture. He defended the musical approaches of Francesc Valls and thus the new modernism. His related music-theoretical three-volume work Exagoge ad musicem has been lost.
