Mihai Brediceanu
Mihai Brediceanu (born June 14, 1920 in Brașov ; † March 4, 2005 ) was a Romanian composer , conductor and musicologist .
Brediceanu was the son of the composer Tiberiu Brediceanu (1877-1968) and nephew of the diplomat Caius Brediceanu (1879-1953). He studied piano at the Conservatory of Brașov and music theory, conducting and composition at the Bucharest Music Academy with Mihail Jora , Marțian Negrea , Florica Musicescu , Silvia Serbescu and Ionel Perlea . He also completed law and mathematics studies in Bucharest, which he completed with a doctorate. From 1959 to 1966 he was general director of the Opera Națională Bucureşti , from 1969 to 1971 musical director of the Syracuse Orchestra inNew York City , then he worked as a professor at Syracuse University until 1975 . Between 1978 and 1980 Brediceanu was General Director of the Istanbul Opera and between 1982 and 1990 General Director of the George Enescu Symphony Orchestra . Since 1991 he was again General Director of Opera Națională Română Bucureşti. In 1995 he was director of the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest.
Brediceanu was also a member of the Romanian Composers Union. In addition to several music for the theater, he composed a symphony , four symphonic dances, a suite for chamber orchestra, choral works, chamber music and songs .
