Mihai Chițac

Mihai Chițac (born November 4, 1928 in Suharău , Botoșani County ; † November 1, 2010 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian military and politician .

Life

In 1989, Chițac acted on behalf of Nicolae Ceaușescu against the anti-communist demonstrators in Timișoara in western Romania . In the government of President Ion Iliescu , he was Minister of the Interior and responsible for the brutal crackdown on a civil demonstration in University Square in Bucharest in 1990. In 2008 he was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Romanian Supreme Court .

He died in his home around 10 a.m. on November 1st.
