Mihkel Kütson

Mihkel Kütson (born September 11, 1971 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian conductor .

Life and music

Mihkel Kütson graduated from the Tallinn Music High School ( Estonian Tallinna Muusikakeskkool ) in 1989 under his teacher René Eespere . From 1989 to 1992 he studied choral conducting at the Estonian Academy of Music . In 1992 he received a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to continue his studies in Germany. At the Hamburg University of Music and Theater , Kütson studied conducting with Klauspeter Seibel .

In 1998 Mihkel Kütson was appointed first guest conductor at the Vanemuine Opera and Concert Hall in the southern Estonian city of Tartu , and a year later he was appointed general music director of the house and chief conductor of the Tartu Symphony Orchestra. In 1999 he was awarded the sponsorship prize at the competition of the German music academies in Weimar and in this context he took part in a master class given by Gerhard Markson at the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland .

From 2002 to 2006 Kütson was first conductor at the Lower Saxony State Opera in Hanover . From 2007 to 2012 he was general music director at the Schleswig-Holstein State Theater . Since 2012 he has held this position at Theater Krefeld and Mönchengladbach .

Awards

In 2002 Kütson was accepted into the “ Conductors Forum” funding program of the German Music Council . In October 2006 he received the German Conductor Prize .
