Life

Mihkel Raud was born the son of the writer couple Eno Raud and Aino Pervik and is therefore a brother of the writer and Japanologist Rein Raud and the artist and children's book author Piret Raud . He has been playing guitar in various rock bands since 1983, some of which he founded and directed himself. After graduating from high school in Tallinn (1987), he briefly studied English philology by distance learning at the University of Tartu , but soon devoted himself entirely to music and television, where he directed various shows.

In 2014 he joined the Estonian Social Democratic Party , for which he was elected to the Estonian Parliament in 2015 . After a year, however, he left parliament and withdrew from politics.

Mihkel Raud is a member of the Estonian Writers' Union .

Literary work

Mihkel Raud landed a great success with his autobiographical debut novel, in which the life of a mostly drunk rock musician in Estonia in the 1980s is described openly, peppered with vulgarisms, although the critics criticized that "not a single character [can be found]. but just a herd of blatant drunkards. "

His second novel ( Blau ist dein Himmel ) is a multi-layered detective novel which, due to its amalgamation of (German) terrorism and Russian secret service, takes on the characteristics of a political thriller. The main character is called Ulrike and is the mastermind behind an attack in Tallinn. She bears features of Ulrike Meinhof , who is also named in the book (p. 255). The novel received critical acclaim and has also been translated into Finnish.
