Mike Hopkins (sound engineer)

Michael Alexander Hopkins (born August 12, 1959 in Wellington , † December 30, 2012 on the Waiohine River in New Zealand) was a New Zealand film sound editor.

Life

Hopkins first significant work - after starting out with sound editing - as a sound engineer for Peter Jackson's Braindead in 1992. He remained professionally connected to the director for twenty years. He was twice awarded an Oscar for the best sound editing (2002: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers , 2005: King Kong ) and nominated for another Oscar (2007: Transformers ), each together with the American Ethan Van der Ryn . Hopkins also worked on the films Blade Runner , Superman II and Octopussy .

Private

Hopkins was married and lived with his wife on a farm in Greytown , Wellington .

death

On December 30, 2012, Hopkins drowned after an accident with a rafting boat on the Waiohine River in New Zealand's Tararua Ranges .
