Hartmut Jetter (born March 30, 1930 in Stuttgart ) is a German Protestant religious educator . He was professor of theology at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Education and then a member of the church leadership of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . For many years he was co-editor of the Evangelical Adult Catechism .

Life

Hartmut Jetter was born as the fifth of eight children of Wilhelm Jetter and Hildegard Jetter. His father was a preacher in the evangelical community . He belongs to the white vintage . Four older brothers were already soldiers. The oldest fell in East Prussia in 1945 , the second in Ulm in 1945 . At just 14 years old, he experienced the heavy air raid on Heilbronn on December 4, 1944 , which is said to have had a great impact on him.

After graduating from high school in Heilbronn in 1949, Hartmut Jetter first completed a two-year carpenter apprenticeship . At that time, only soldiers returning from captivity were allowed to study. He then studied theology at the universities of Tübingen , Heidelberg and Hamburg .

After studying and as a vicariate at the Evangelical Church in Württemberg , Jetter was a research assistant at the University of Tübingen, where he received his doctorate in 1962 under Walter Uhsadel . He then was parish priest in Schwäbisch Hall for three years before he was appointed to the University of Education in Schwäbisch Gmünd . In 1980 he was appointed to the church leadership of the Württemberg Evangelical Church as senior church councilor for theology and worship.

Jetter was married to Gertrud Jetter, née Bareiß, from Tübingen, who died in 2013, and has three children.

Working groups in Germany and Europe

Jetter was on the VELKD's editorial commission for the Evangelical Adult Catechism for over 30 years, and for many years as chairman of the commission. Since 1981 he has been involved in the "Leuenberg Talks" of the European Protestant churches. He represented his regional church in the regular working groups of the Community of Evangelical Churches in Europe (CPCE).

Because of his origins, Jetter was able to contribute significantly to a revision of the Pietist Rescript from 1743 in 1993.

In retirement, Jetter worked for the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge .
