Mike Mareen (born November 9, 1949 in Berlin , real name Uwe-Michael Wischhof ) is a German pop singer and music producer . He had some mid-1980s hits in Italo-disco style.

biography

Uwe-Michael Wischhoff grew up in Lüneburg . As a drummer in the band Cemetery Institution, he performed at the Hamburg Star Club, among others . He later became a seaman and came to the United States , where he lived in New York for several years and played in several bands. Back in Germany he took acting and piano lessons .

Under the stage name Mike Mareen, the hit single was released in 1974 for you I'm starting a new life today . Other publications followed, including Mama Leone in 1976 , which only became a hit two years later in the version sung by Bino .

In 1982 Mareen founded the record label Night 'n' Day to help up-and-coming artists enter the music business. In 1985, with the support of producers Chris J. Evans and Ironside, the Italo disco single Dancing in the Dark was released , which reached number 1 in the dance charts in 27 countries.

The commercial breakthrough came in the summer of 1986 with the single Love Spy , which was sold around 6.5 million times worldwide. The song was placed in the top 20 of the German single charts and in the top 50 of the US hot dance charts. At the beginning of 1987, the successor single Agent of Liberty rose to the German top 30.

In addition to his singing career, Mareen also worked as a producer. a. for the Italian singer Silvano Pulignano (DJ's Project) and the Italo-Disco-Projekt, for the four-time dirt track speedway world champion Egon Müller alias Amadeus Liszt and for the Canadian singer Shipra.

After a long break, the comeback album Darkness and Light was released in 2004 . Mareen also gave concerts again, e.g. B. 2004 in Mexico in front of around 25,000 and at the end of 2005 in Moscow and St. Petersburg in front of 35,000 spectators each.
