Michael James "Mike" Marshall (born July 17, 1957 in New Castle , Pennsylvania ) is an American musician.

Marshall grew up in Lakeland , Florida and initially studied guitar. Soon after, the violin was added, followed by the mandolin and mandocello . His musical style ranges from bluegrass to jazz to Brazilian music . He is one of the most innovative musicians in the field of newer instrumental music . Marshall is married to Caterina Lichtenberg , who teaches mandolin at the Cologne University of Music .
