Darol Anger (* 1953 in San Francisco , California ) is an American violinist who has worked across genres.

Act

At the age of 21, Anger was a founding member of David Grisman's quintet , which fused folk , blues and jazz . Together with the pianist Barbara Higbie he recorded the album Tideline (1982) for Windham Hill . Two years later the two brought Mike Marshall , Todd Phillips and Andy Narell into their quintet, with whom they performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival . Until 1990 the quintet was on the road as Montreux and released several albums.

In 1985 Anger was a founding member of the Turtle Island String Quartet , for which he also arranged and composed. As a member of the Fiddlers Four (with Michael Doucet , Bruce Molsky and Rushad Eggleston ) he was nominated for a Grammy in 2002. Currently (as of 2013) he heads the Republic of Strings , which he founded with Scott Nygaard. He also plays bluegrass in various formations, but has also performed with Tony Rice , Stéphane Grappelli , Peter Ind , Marin Alsop , Bill Evans , Nickel Creek , Chris Thile & Punch Brothers, Béla Fleck and Taarka.

Since 2010 he has been an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music .
