Mike McColgan is an American singer. He is known to the general public as a founding member and former front man of the Dropkick Murphys .

He is currently the singer of Street Dogs , which he founded himself.

Life

McColgan was born in the Savin Hill neighborhood of Dorchester , Massachusetts and attended Catholic Memorial School in West Roxbury. As a singer in the school choir, he finally began to be more and more interested in music.

In 1989 McColgan joined the US Army and took part in the second Gulf War. In 1996 the Dropkick Murphys were founded, with whom he recorded the first album, Do or Die .

According to McColgan, he always wanted to be a firefighter for the Boston Fire Department , as was his uncle and role model, Kevin O'Toole . To this he dedicated the Street Dogs song Kevin J. O'Toole on the album State of Grace .

When McColgan left the band in 1998 to pursue his dream job, he was replaced by ex- The Bruisers frontman Al Barr . Regarding his exit from the band, he said in the same year "I have no misgivings, no regrets ... and there are no bad feelings ... I still talk to those guys." ( Eng .: "I have no concerns and I don't regret it ... there is no bad blood ... I still talk to the guys normally.") The song Two Angry Kids from the State of Grace album is supposed to be dedicated to spending time with Ken Casey .

Foundation of the Street Dogs

After a few years with the fire department, McColgan turned back to music and founded the band Street Dogs . This quickly got new members, such as B. Johnny Rioux and Joe Sirois of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones . Guitarist Marcus Hollar emailed McColgan; if the band needed a new guitarist he would be available. Hollar was able to audition and eventually became a member. The Street Dogs have already toured with Social Distortion , Flogging Molly , Tiger Army , The Bouncing Souls , The Adolescents , The Offspring , The Bones , The Swingin 'Utters , and Anti-Flag . They also performed on the Warped Tour and had a successful headlining tour in late 2005. Fading American Dream , the band's third album, was released on October 24, 2006. In support of the album, the band went on The Gold Tour with The Bouncing Souls from October to November . In February 2008 it was announced that the Street Dogs will release their fourth studio album, State of Grace , on July 8, 2008 under the contract of Hellcat Records . Her fifth, self-titled studio album was released on August 31, 2010.
