Michael James "Mike" McParland (* 8. November 1958 in North Bay , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player and current - trainer , among others in the German Ice Hockey League and the Swiss National League A worked.

Career

McParland was initially active during his junior years for the lower class North Bay Trappers , before he went on the ice from 1976 to 1978 in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League for the Sudbury Wolves . He then played for the ice hockey team of the University of Guelph , with which he celebrated numerous team and individual successes in the following years. After the undrafted left-handed shooter had completed the 1979/80 season partly in the jersey of the Cambridge Hornets with play in the Continental Senior A Hockey League , the Canadian striker made the leap to Europe in 1980 and subsequently played for a year at the Dutch first division club IJHC Assen . The 1981-82 season denied McParland the EC Salzburg in the Austrian Hockey League .

This was followed by engagements with the Swiss National League B clubs SC Rapperswil-Jona , HC La Chaux-de-Fonds and EHC Chur . There the Canadian was the most successful scorer in the second-highest division in the 1985/86 season and one season later he finished third in the top scorer list. During the 1988/89 season he let his active career at EHC Chur end, for which he scored five goals in two games and was also head coach of the team in the same season.

After his time as a player, he was active as a coach with the Kassel Huskies from 2003 to 2005 and also coached the EHC Basel for the 2007/08 season . Before that he was head coach of numerous teams in the National League B in the 1990s. With both teams he played unsuccessfully against relegation in the respective top division. In 2009 McParland took over the post of head coach for the Nipissing Lakers , the ice hockey team of Nipissing University , in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport .
