Mike Murphy (born January 15, 1989 in Kingston , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who has played in the course of his active career for the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League .

Career

Mike Murphy began his career as a hockey player with the Kingston Voyageurs, for which he was active from 2004 to 2006 in the Ontario Junior Hockey League . In the 2005/06 season , the goalkeeper came in parallel to three missions for the Belleville Bulls from the Canadian top junior league Ontario Hockey League , for which he was permanently on from 2006 to 2009. Especially in his last two seasons in the junior division, he was able to convince. In 2008 and 2009 he was the goalkeeper with the lowest goals against goals and the best catch rate in the OHL. In both years he was also elected to the first all-star team in the league and OHL Goaltender of the Year . In addition, he was elected to the second All-Star Team of the Canadian Hockey League in 2008 and their first All-Star Team in 2009. In the 2008/09 season , he also received the Dave Pinkney Trophy for the lowest average goal conceded by an OHL goalkeeper team.

During his time in the Ontario Hockey League, Murphy was selected in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round as the 165th player of the Carolina Hurricanes . In the 2009/10 season he ran exclusively for their then farm team Albany River Rats in the American Hockey League . In the following two years he was with Carolina's new AHL farm team Charlotte Checkers also in the AHL between the posts. He also ran in the 2011/12 season in two games for the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League . For the 2012/13 season , the Canadian was signed by HK Spartak Moscow from the Continental Hockey League , but released on November 1, 2012 after seven appearances from his contract. In March 2013 he finally got a contract with his former AHL team Charlotte Checkers. For this, the goalkeeper was also on the ice in the following 2013/14 season. He let his career come to an end in the 2014/15 season at Dornbirner EC in the Austrian ice hockey league .
