Mike Thurmeier

Michael "Mike" Thurmeier (* 1965 ) is a Canadian animator and film director .

Life

After graduating from Sheridan College in animation in 1997 , he applied to a number of companies as a 3D animator. He moved to New York City in 1998 to work at the Blue Sky Studios computer animation studio , which he has been with ever since. He was involved in the animation sequences in Fight Club (1999) and The Sopranos (2000). In the following time he was also responsible for the animation of almost all Blue Sky productions, such as "Lead Animator" for Ice Age (2002) and as "Supervising Animator" for Robots (2005) and Ice Age 2 - Jetzt taut’s ( 2006). After that he was "Supervising Animator" at Horton hear a who! (2008).

For a short film with the squirrel Scrat , which should also be included on the DVD for Ice Age 2: Jetzt Taut’s , he was hired as a director together with Chris Renaud . The six-minute film with the title No Time for Nuts was completed in 2006, won an Annie Award and was nominated for an Oscar for " best animated short film ".

Mike Thurmeier directed Ice Age 3 - The Dinosaurs Are Going together with Carlos Saldanha for the first time in a movie. In 2012 he took over together with Steve Martino in Ice Age 4 - Continental Drift directing. Ice Age followed in 2016 - collision ahead! .
