Michail Smirnov (English transcription: Mikhail Smirnov ; born August 10, 1967 in Minsk ) is a former Belarusian football player .

Career

The midfielder gained his first experience in the top division of the former Soviet Union . After stints at Vasas Budapest in Hungary and at Zawisza Bydgoszcz , his path led via Dinamo Minsk , where he played two games in the UEFA Champions League against SV Werder Bremen , and finally to Germany in the association league for SGV Freiberg . There, the Stuttgart Kickers noticed him and Smirnow switched to the Kickers during the winter break . In the following season he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with the Kickers .

After two years at Waldau, he left the blues and in the following years played for Eintracht Trier and FK Pirmasens in the regional league . After three more years in Germany, with SG Sonnenhof Großaspach , SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg and TSG Backnang , Smirnow ended his career as a footballer in his home country with Lokomotive Minsk .
