The gymnastics and sports community Backnang 1919 Fußball eV , or TSG Backnang for short , is a football club from Backnang .

history

The association was founded in 1919 as FV 1919 Backnang and dissolved in 1945. As early as April 1946, the re-establishment of the Sports Association Backnang took place , which in addition to the FV 1919 also dissolved the tennis club 1925 Backnang , the Kraftsportverein 1920 Backnang and TV 1846 Backnang . In 1951 the name was finally changed to TSG Backnang.

In football, TSG moved into focus in the mid-1960s. From 1965, the club played in the third-class amateur league North Württemberg and immediately finished fifth. In 1967 they finished the season in second place and took part in the promotion round to the then second-rate Regionalliga Süd instead of the champions VfB Stuttgart Amateure , who were not eligible for promotion . TSG won the decider against Offenburger FV 1-0 and was therefore second class.

After the rise of the football masters, the club decided to restructure. The TSG Backnang remained as an umbrella association, but the departments were independent associations that anknüpften with the annual designation to the tradition of the predecessor clubs:

  • TSG Backnang 1919 football
  • TSG Backnang 1846 gymnastics and sports departments
  • TSG Backnang 1925 tennis
  • TSG Backnang 1920 heavy athletics

In the Regionalliga Süd, TSG Fußball was unable to establish itself. After only one season ( 1967/68 ) with only four wins, but 20 defeats, the relegation took place. An average of 3,294 spectators watched these second-rate games, which are still unique today.

Until 1975, the footballers played mostly in the front half of the amateur league North Württemberg, before relegation took place here in 1976. The footballers only returned to the national focus when they qualified for the main round of the 1992 DFB Cup . After a bye in the first main round, however, the game ended in round 2 against the first Suhler SV .

TSG Backnang celebrated the most recent successes in youth work, so in 2005/06 the B-youth rose to the top German division, the Regionalliga Süd. In the following season 2006/07 the immediate relegation took place. The TSG is also successful in the other age groups, the A-youth plays just like the B-youth in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg, the C- and D-youth each in the highest season.

In the 2013/14 season, TSG Backnang's first team won the championship in the seventh-class Württemberg regional league and thus returned to the Württemberg association's league after eleven years . In 2017 they reached 2nd place in the association league, which entitles them to participate in the promotion games. There they prevailed against the South Baden Association League runner-up Freiburg FC and rose to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg .
