Mikko Eloranta (born August 24, 1972 in Aura ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player .
Career
Mikko Eloranta began his professional career in the Finnish SM-liiga with Ilves Tampere and moved to TPS Turku after one season . Here he spent three seasons. In his last season in 1997/98 he was the top scorer in the league. He was selected in the ninth round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft as 247th by the Boston Bruins . The following season he moved to the NHL for the Boston Bruins, where he spent two full seasons. At the beginning of his third NHL season he was swapped by the Bruins for the Los Angeles Kings . There he played until 2003. Then he returned to Europe to play again in the SM-liiga at TPS Turku. After only one season, he moved to the Swiss national league team Rapperswil-Jona , where he was under contract for three years.
For the 2007/08 season Eloranta moved to the Malmö Redhawks from HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division. In the following season he ran again for his ex-club TPS Turku in the SM-liiga before ending his career. In the 2010/11 season he returned to the ice for a single game, scoring one goal and two assists for fourth division team PaKa.
International
Eloranta played in 1998, 1999, 2003 and 2005 at the Ice Hockey World Championships , in 2002 at the Winter Olympics and the World Cup of Hockey 2004 for Finland. He was unable to participate in the 2006 Winter Olympics due to an injury.
