Mikko Kousa (born May 11, 1988 in Lahti ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Pelicans Lahti in the Liiga since December 2016 .

Career

Mikko Kousa began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of the Pelicans Lahti , for whose professional team he was active from 2007 to 2010 in the SM-liiga , the highest Finnish league. From 2006 to 2008 he also played for the Finnish U20 national team in the second-class Mestis , in which he played six games for HeKi as a loan player in the 2009/10 season. For the 2010/11 season the defender was signed by Lahti's league rivals HIFK Helsinki , with whom he immediately won the Finnish championship .

From May 2012 Kousa was under contract with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod from the Continental Hockey League and completed 19 KHL games for Torpedo before he was released from his contract in January 2013 and moved to MODO Hockey in the Elitserien with a contract until the end of the season. He was then signed by Jokerit Helsinki in April 2013 .

This was followed by further positions at home and abroad ( Lukko Rauma , SC Bern , Djurgården Hockey ) before he returned to his home club in December 2016.

International

For Finland , Kousa took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2008 . During the tournament he scored one goal and two assists in six games.
