Miksa white
Miksa Weiß [ ˈmikʃɒ ˈvɛjs ] (German Max Weiß [ ˈmaks ˈvaɪs ]; * July 21, 1857 in Szered, Austria-Hungary , today Sereď , Slovakia ; † March 14, 1927 in Vienna ) was a chess player from Austria-Hungary. Between 1885 and 1895 he was one of the strongest players in the world.
Life
He studied mathematics in Vienna and played in several master tournaments from 1880, including the DSB congresses in Nuremberg in 1883, Hamburg in 1885 and Frankfurt am Main in 1887. He achieved his greatest success at the tournament in New York in 1889 , which was held in two rounds with 20 participants. White reached the 1st / 2nd, which was shared with Michail Chigorin . He then decided to cut back on the game of chess in order to continue a successful career as a bank clerk at the Rothschild house . His positional style was considered typical of the Viennese chess school of the time , from which masters like Carl Schlechter also emerged .
His best historical rating was 2727 in July 1889, making him the fourth best player in the world.
