Milena Glimbovski (* 1990 in Siberia , Soviet Union ) is a Russian- German entrepreneur, author and zero-waste activist. Glimbovski gained fame primarily through the founding of the Berlin grocery store Original Unverpackt , in which goods are sold without disposable packaging.

Life

Glimbovski was born in 1990 in Siberia, what was then the Soviet Union. In 1995 her family moved with her to Germany, she grew up in Hanover and attended, among other things, the Wilhelm Raabe School . After training as a media designer, Glimbovski began studying social and business communication at the Berlin University of the Arts , but later dropped out.

After a long period of preparation, Glimbovski and Sara Wolf started crowdfunding in 2014 to finance the founding of their Original Unpacked grocery store . The crowdfunding was successful with a raised sum of 100,000 euros. The store opened in 2014 and still exists today, Glimbovski is still the managing director (as of December 2018). The founding of "Original Unverpackt" was followed by numerous stores in Germany and around the world. With the founding of "Original Unverpackt" Glimbovski is considered to be the initiator of the Zero Waste movement in Germany. Numerous media reported not only about the packaging-free supermarket as such, but also portrayed the founder. Deutsche Welle called her a "Climate Hero". The online platform Edition F named her one of "25 women who make our world better".

In 2015, Milena Glimbovski and Jan Lenarz founded the publishing house “Ein gute Verlag”, which sells books and calendars on the subject of mindfulness . Among other things, the two publish the “Calendar for Mindfulness” with the title A Good Plan , an annual calendar that is not intended as an overview of dates, but is primarily intended as a non-fiction book and life planner.

In November, a jury from the Berlin Senate , the Investitionsbank Berlin and the Berlin Chamber of Industry and Commerce named Glimbovski “Entrepreneur of the Year 2018”.

Glimbovski is known as a speaker on the topics of sustainability and zero waste and appears at numerous conferences in Germany and abroad.
