Edition F is an online magazine for women that Nora-Vanessa Wohlert and Susann Hoffmann founded as a start-up in Berlin in 2014 . In the year it was founded, it received a LeadAward in the Online Independent of the Year category .

Concept and funding

Edition F is designed as a business and lifestyle magazine for women to fill the gap “between stereotypical, intellectually less challenging women's magazines and business magazines that are more geared towards men,” says Nora-Vanessa Wohlert. In the year it was founded, Wohlert and Hoffmann collected investments of 100,000 euros. According to Tagesspiegel, the number of monthly visitors was 350,000 at the end of 2015. After another round of financing, the company was valued at four million euros. By 2016 it received a total of 850,000 euros and had 500,000 visitors a month. The founders Nora-Vanessa Wohlert and Susann Hoffmann are editors of Edition F and managing directors of Edition F GmbH , in which they each hold 37 percent.

The editorial office is located in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg . Until 2017, the founders Nora-Vanessa Wohlert and Susann Hoffmann were editors-in-chief and Teresa Bücker editor-in-chief. Thereafter, Teresa Bücker took over the editor-in-chief and Silvia Follmann took over the editorial management until Teresa Bücker left the company in June 2019 and Silvia Follmann became the sole editor-in-chief. Silvia Follmann also left the company in September 2019. On March 15, 2020 was Mareice Kaiser Chief Editor of Edition F .

Content

The articles focus on career, society and politics in their reporting and interviews as well as personal matters. According to the website of the Grimme Award 2018, they are “authentic and feminist”. The magazine "has become a strong voice" in the wake of #metoo .

An open letter from the newly elected CDU district councilor of Berlin-Mitte in 2016 , Jenna Behrends , first published by Edition F , brought the magazine media attention. In it, Behrends attested that her party had a structural sexism problem and thus triggered a debate in the CDU.

In 2017, the writer Mirna Funk caused a sensation with an interview: She demanded that one had to "found a feminist terror group to get the old white men out of the way." The sentence was printed in the Jüdischen Allgemeine as a quote of the week and later criticized by Jens Jessen in an article on MeToo . The sentence is missing in a later version.

One third of the published content comes from the editorial team, one third from users and one third from media partners. Native advertising contributions are also published to finance operations .

A paid content offering was launched in March 2020 with Edition F Plus .

25 women award

Edition F, in cooperation with Zeit Online and the Handelsblatt, has been awarding an annual prize to 25 women since 2014 , selected by a 20-member jury and based on the suggestions of readers. In 2020 the prize was not awarded after seven women withdrew their participation with the accusation of "colorism", that is, on the grounds that there was too little diversity in terms of skin tone among the persons of color selected .

Female Future Force

Edition F organized paid online workshops from 2015 to 2020 . In 2017, € 380,000 was raised via crowdfunding to expand the online workshops for the online academy Female Future Force . Edition F generated a third of its sales with the online academy . A Female Future Force Day was held on August 25, 2018 and October 12, 2019 . Due to financial difficulties, the online academy was closed in March 2020. According to the founders, she recently made a loss of 10,000 euros per month.
