The 12th Baza Bezzałogowych Statków Powietrznych (12th air base for unmanned aerial vehicles) is a military airfield of the Polish Air Force ( Siły Powietrzne Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej ). The base is in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in the Wałecki powiat (Deutsch Krone district) about five kilometers east of the center of Mirosławiec / Märkisch Friedland .

Incidents

A serious accident occurred on January 23, 2008 when a CASA C-295 crashed on approach. All 20 people on board were killed.

Todays use

After the relocation of the Su-22M-4 of the 8th Tactical Fliegerstaffel, 8th Eskadra Lotnictwa Taktycznego (8th elt) 2010 to the 21st base near Świdwin, there are no more flying squadrons with manned aircraft stationed here. However, the base is occasionally used by a wide variety of NATO units.

The Polish air forces use the airfield today rather as a base for their unmanned aerial vehicles .

In addition to Polish drones, the United States Air Force has been using the base for deployments of MQ-9 drones, which are controlled by members of the Air National Guard, since 2018 . Detachment 2 , subordinate to the 52nd Squadron in Spangdahlem , has been operational since the beginning of March 2019.
