The Militia Templi - Christi pauperum Militum Ordo (Militia of the Temple - Order of the Poor Knights of Christ) is a private knightly community of Catholic lay people established in Italy in 1979 .

history

The 'Milizia del Tempio', which emerged from the Christian scouting movement , was entered in the state register of associations on September 21, 1979 and, under the approval of the statutes by Archbishop Ismaele Mario Castellano of Siena-Colle di Val d'Elsa-Montalcino, as canonical private association of believers in diocesan law (CIC can. 298 f.) recognized in the Archdiocese of Siena-Colle di Val d'Elsa-Montalcino (Italy). His successor, Gaetano Bonicelli, approved a new version of the statutes on November 18, 1990 under the name "Regola dei poveri cavalieri di Cristo". The constitutional document “Sviluppo e criteri di sviluppo delle Milizia del Tempio”, which is equivalent to the “Regola”, was created without the participation of the bishop. It was discussed and adopted by the “General Chapter” of the Militia Templi in 2002 and 2006, changed by the “Grand Master” on his own authority and promulgated by him on March 11, 2007.

The seat of the Militia Templi and the associated scout association is in the " Castello della Magione " in Poggibonsi near Siena .

Purpose and task

It refers to the ideals and lifestyle described by Bernhard von Clairvaux in the Liber ad Milites Templi de laude novae militiae for the Templars. The community does not claim any direct descent from the historical Knights Templar and is not one of the religious knightly orders and papal knightly orders recognized by the Holy See . Under canon law it is a "private association of believers". Titles awarded by him ("Grand Master", "Duke", "Knight", "Prelate" etc.) and designations such as Dom. (- inus, "Lord") and Fra. (- ter, "Brother") are internal to the association .

Special goals of the Militia Templi are the care of the liturgy (in its version from 1962 ), the performance of the church divine office , the deepening of the spirituality and the culture of Christian knighthood, the care of the pilgrims and the moral and material support of the neighbor and especially of the Christians in the Holy Land, as well as the education of the young.

Members and sponsors

According to its own information, the association has around 100 members worldwide, including around 30 "professed" and 70 "obedience knights" and "ladies". There are also around 20 applicants, 122 holders of the honorary badge and 27 friends.

The founder and "Grand Master and Duke of the Militia Templi" is Marcello Alberto Cristofani (born January 8, 1940 in Casole d'Elsa), who also claims the following titles and honors (data in brackets): Barone (1809) e Conte (1812) del Regno d'Italia; Conte della Magione (1979); Conte Palatino (1981). He was elected temporarily in 1979 and 1984, then for life in 1988 and is now in office " by the grace of God " (per grazia di Dio).

Father Attila (Gregorio) Lipovsky, OSPPE (born June 30, 1979 in Nové Zámky, Slovakia; ordained a priest: July 5, 2003 in Esztergom, Hungary) is currently the “prelate” of the Order. 4 cardinals (including Silvio Angelo Pio Oddi [1993– † 2001], Edouard Gagnon [1996– † 2007] and Alfons Maria Stickler [1995– † 2007]), 11 bishops and 34 priests are listed as “cappellani” (chaplains of honor) .
