Mario Ismaele Castellano OP (born September 22, 1913 in Borgo d'Oneglia near Imperia , Liguria , Italy ; † April 12, 2007 in Siena ) was Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Siena-Colle di Val d'Elsa-Montalcino in Siena, Italy.

Life

Mario Ismaele Castellano joined the religious order of the Dominicans at and received on 5 July 1942, the priestly ordination . 1954 he was by Pius XII. appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Volterra , retired in 1956 and named Titular Archbishop of Colossae . In 1961 he was appointed Archbishop of Siena and in 1975 Bishop of Colle di Val d'Elsa and 1978 Bishop of Montalcino. After the three dioceses were united in 1986, he was appointed Archbishop of Siena-Colle di Val d'Elsa-Montalcino. In 1989 his resignation was granted by John Paul II .

In 1970 Castellano founded the International Association of Katharinaten and in 1979 he was a co-founder of the Laity Order Militia Templi , of which he was Bishop Patron (Vescovo prottetore).

Alessandro Natta , secretary of the PCI , who was also born in Oneglia, was his first cousin.
