Millville is a hamlet in the Town of Shelby in Orleans County , New York in the United States .
geography
Millville is largely on New York State Route 31A , which runs west-east through the village, in the valley of Fish Creek , which receives two tributaries here.
history
The place was first settled in the mid-1810s and grew because three watercourses were available here, whose water could be used to operate mills. In the early days, when the area was not cleared , before the amount and regularity of the water had not been reduced, there were three sawmills , a flour mill and a lathe. In the 1870s there was a school, three churches, a grocery store, a housewares store, a tannery, a foundry, a wagon builder, an educational establishment, a post office, and about 30 houses. In 2007, Millville Cemetery, located south of the village, was added to the National Register of Historic Places .
