Milutin Šoškić (born December 31, 1937 in Peć , Yugoslavia ) is a Yugoslav football coach and former football goalkeeper .

The goalkeeper began his career at Red Star Belgrade as a field player. As a teenager he moved to local rivals Partizan Belgrade , where he was goalkeeper in the B youth. Šoškić was goalkeeper and captain at Partizan Belgrade until 1966, then he played at 1. FC Köln until 1971 . There he ousted Toni Schumacher and was a regular goalkeeper for two years until he broke two shins in the 1968/69 season. This almost resulted in relegation, as no players were allowed to be re-signed during the season and the club did not have an equivalent representative. 1. FC Köln then signed Manfred Manglitz , behind whom Šoškić was a reliable number 2 for two years.

The fact that the uninitiated Šoškić guarded the Cologne goal against Kickers Offenbach instead of Manglitz and the game ended 4-2 for Cologne also contributed indirectly to the exposure of the Bundesliga scandal . His greatest successes at 1. FC Köln were winning the Cup in 1968 (4-1 against VfL Bochum ) and the 1971 final, lost after extra time (2-1 against FC Bayern Munich ), again as a representative of the suspended Manglitz.

Šoškić was Yugoslav national goalkeeper from 1959 to 1966 . In 1960 he was runner- up at the European Championships in France and also Olympic champion in the same year . He made his debut in the national team on October 11, 1959 in Belgrade , when he was substituted on in the game against Hungary when the score was 2: 2 (final score 2: 4). At the Soccer World Cup in Chile in 1962 , he was in goal when his team beat Germany 1-0 in the quarter-finals . Yugoslavia finished fourth in the end. In 1963, when playing a world selection that played against England at Wembley Stadium , he replaced the Soviet legend Lev Yashin in the selection goal in the second half . 1964 was Šoškić in the goal of the Yugoslav team, which lost in Belgrade 2: 7 against a European selection.

After finishing his career, he was an assistant coach at Partizan Belgrade from 1979 to 1990. In 1993 he started a new career in the United States as the goalkeeping coach of the national team . This post, which he held at the 1994, 1998 and 2002 World Championships, he had until 2006. Šoškić lives in Bakersfield , California .
