Mimmi Zetterström
Mimmi Zetterström , actually Vilhelmina Katarina Zetterström (born March 3, 1843 in Gävle ; died May 26, 1885 in Paris ), was a Swedish painter .
life and work
After finishing school, Zetterström studied art at the Kungliga Konsthögskolan in Stockholm from 1867 to 1872 . Along with Amanda Sidwall , Christine Sundberg , Anna Nordgren , Sophie Södergren and Anna Nordlander, she was one of the first women to study there. In 1872 she traveled to Paris, where she later settled. Their apartment there developed into a meeting place for the young Swedish artists living in the city. In 1875 she exhibited for the first time at the Salon de Paris . The painting Interior from Lapland shown there received good reviews and was subsequently bought by the French state. In 1878 she was represented at the Paris World Exhibition .
Zetterström's self-portrait from 1876 exemplifies how the artist dealt with the subject of the interior. Other motifs were the Swedish actor August Lindberg as Hamlet or a portrayal of Charlotte Corday before the Revolutionary Tribunal . There are also a number of genre images. In addition, she created numerous motifs from her Swedish homeland, such as the painting Dalfolk ( People from Dalarna ) from 1876. Zetterström also painted landscape views that were created in both Sweden and Sicily. Works by Zetterström can be found in the Länsmuseet Gävleborg , the Nordic Museum and the National Museum in Stockholm.
