The Mindtime Show (also Mindtime - The Online Show ) was an online television show that existed from 2006 to 2009 and was broadcast on the sevenload video platform . It made humorous references to current political and everyday topics. The show concept was developed by Robert Michel aka Rob Vegas .

concept

The Mindtime Show was published every Saturday at 8:15 pm under the motto “Mindtime at prime time, against all major broadcasters” . In the usually 5 to 10 minute long program, Rob Vegas was seen as a presenter in front of a green box in his apartment in Cologne and presented different content. Among other things, there was usually a short stand-up program at the beginning , in which reference was made to current world events, sometimes Rob Vegas cooked, sometimes there were campaigns on the subject of Web 2.0 (including the "Superblog 2008", "Rob Shop") , or interview guests such as Tom Gaebel or Nicole da Silva .

The show was created entirely by Rob Vegas alone, he acted as editor , presenter , cameraman and editor .

history

In 2005, the then 22-year-old political student Robert Michel flew to Las Vegas and lost all of his savings in the casinos there , according to his own statements, € 5,000. Then his friends called him "Rob Vegas".

Michel, who had had his own weblog since 2004, shot some comedy videos together with a friend in early 2006, which were distributed via the blog. Because some of his homepage visitors requested a weekly show, he came up with a new concept and first uploaded a pilot episode of the show to YouTube .

Since he didn't get particularly high ratings there, he switched to sevenload in the summer of 2006 , a relatively new video portal at the time, where the Mindtime Show was published as a so-called "special", which means that the show was given a separate design within the platform and was specifically advertised. The show concept was well received by the users of the platform and audience numbers of over 100,000 were quickly achieved per episode.

The cooperation with sevenload was strengthened in 2007. In the autumn of the same year, Michel moved from Oerlinghausen to Cologne, near the sevenload headquarters, and has received financial support from the company ever since.

On February 11, 2009, Robert Michel announced that he would no longer continue the Mindtime Show from April 2009 and would instead devote himself to other projects.

Media coverage

Various media also became aware of the program, and Michel made short appearances on television. In his late-night show of the same name, Harald Schmidt showed an excerpt from the Mindtime Show as part of the “Schmoogle” section. Robert Michel also gave interviews to the online edition of Focus , BILD and other media. Robert Michel was invited twice as a studio guest on the Clipmania program on DW-TV .

Mindtime blog

The website associated with the show is the Mindtime Blog. There Michel writes about everyday experiences, the current program or strange things on the Internet. The main topics are online television and Web 2.0 .
