The Minimo 30 (abbreviation for "mini moped") later Joky and Minimo Joky was a collapsible scooter or actually a moped with cast aluminum frame, in a larger trunk or RV was easily stowed.

history

It was manufactured as Minimo 30 from mid-1968 by Poppe & Sohn in Kiel , later as Joky von Nordguss (later renamed Gießtechnik Nord) in Bad Oldesloe and from 1974 to 1987 as Minimo-Joky by Siegfried Thurmann (Winsen, then Radbruch). The frame can be easily disassembled with a few simple steps and a wrench. Handlebars and saddle are removable and equipped with quick release handles. There was a carrying case as an accessory. Several thousand copies were built in total.

Willi Poppe (1924–2016) was an inventor and doer as the owner and head of a foundry in Kiel. Connected to water sports, it bothered him that it was always uphill from the marina to the nearest shop or bakery in town. Often longer distances had to be overcome. A motorized vehicle that fit in the locker of the sailing ship or motor boat was needed. Within a very short time he developed a foldable vehicle with minimal equipment, but practical, quick and easy to stow away. His experience with silumin in his foundry allowed the project to be implemented quickly. In less than three months, the Mokicks were approved and could be sold as Minimo 30.

A few original copies of the "aluminum banana" can still be viewed and sometimes driven in the machine museum in Kiel-Wik .

drive

Which was driven Minimo 30 by an ILO - two-stroke engine MM 540 1.1 kW (1.5 hp) from 47.5 cc with automatic transmission. It reached a top speed of around 30 km / h. There were initially three versions at Poppe & Sohn:

  • Version A: MM 525 with 0.7 HP at 3800 rpm from 34.25 cm³
  • Version B: MM 540 with 1.3 HP at 4500 rpm from 47.8 cm³
  • Version C: MM 540 with 1.5 HP at 5000 rpm from 47.8 cm³

The later series Joky (only as version B and C) and Minimo-Joky (only as version C) drew 1.1 kW (1.5 HP) from the 47.8 cm³.

particularities

Although the vehicle was specified with a maximum speed of 30 km / h in the papers and actually required a class 5 driving license (moped 40 km / h), it was allowed to be registered as a moped and at that time operated without a license . The Minimo 30 was particularly popular with yacht owners (to get sandwiches in the harbor) and glider pilots in the time before the introduction of mobile phones, in order to drive to the nearest telephone booth after landing . It was the first "folding mokick" in the world.

On September 16, 2018, a celebration with the title "50 years MiniMo, the first folding mokick in the world, made in Kiel; Exhibition - Operation - Collector's Meeting" took place in the machine museum Kiel-Wik.
