Miodrag Belodedici (born May 20, 1964 in Socol , Caraş-Severin County ) is a former Romanian football player on the position of Libero and current functionary . He belongs to the Serbian minority in the Banat . In the sports press of the countries of the former Yugoslavia , his family name is written in the South Slavic spelling Belodedić .
Early career
Miodrag Belodedici started playing football at Minerul Moldova Nouă in 1978 . As early as 1981 he was appointed to the junior national team of Romania. Therefore, he moved to Bucharest to the club Luceafărul Bucureşti in the same year . There he was discovered by the then President of Steaua Bucharest .
Career

Belodedici's professional football career began in 1983 when he moved to Steaua Bucharest. As a young player he won the European Cup with Steaua . In 1988 he moved to Yugoslavia and joined FK Red Star Belgrade . The Romanian Football Association then obtained a suspension that was only lifted at the end of 1989. In Serbia itself Belodedici developed on and, after 1991, the national champion for the second time European champions.
His wish to stay with the Serbian record champions until 1995 was not fulfilled due to the Balkan War . By Robert Prosinečki Belodedici left as the second performer in 1992 the Belgrade club and went to Spain for Valencia . There his performance got weaker and weaker, which is why he moved to Real Valladolid after two years . There, however, he did not succeed in making it into the starting eleven and so he went to Villarreal after just one year .
At Villarreal he was often out due to injuries, which Belodedici and the club management were dissatisfied, so that he played for CF Atlante in Mexico City from 1996 . There he achieved the footballing upswing and so he stayed until 1998, before he moved back to Steaua Bucharest , where he ended his career in 2001 by winning the double . Overall, Belodedici played 459 games for his clubs, in which he scored 27 goals.
National team
Belodedici was mostly able to prove his strengths in the Romanian national team . In his long career he participated in both the 1994 World Cup and the 1996 and 2000 European Championships . He played a total of 55 international matches for the Romanian national team and scored five goals.
Later career
After Miodrag Belodedici ended his career in 2001, he became active for the Romanian Football Association. Since November 22, 2005, he has been responsible for the children's and youth teams of the Romanian Football Association.
