Mira (also in the anglicised transcription Meera ) is a female given name that is common in the Indian and Slavic areas. Sometimes it is also used as an abbreviation for Mirabella, Miriam , Miroslawa or similar names.
A Hindu legend tells the story of Mirabai (also "Mira Bai" or "Meera Bai"), a princess from the 16th century who considered herself to be Krishna's lover . Mirabai is considered a spiritual love poet and thus shaped an area of Krishna mysticism.
