Maria Magdalena "Mira" Abendroth (born November 30, 1878 in Lemberg ; † June 4, 1949 in Kiedrich ) was an Austrian opera singer .

Life

Mira Abendroth was born as the daughter of a family of drapers from Silesia . Like her much better known sister Irene Abendroth (1872–1932), Mira also became an opera singer. In 1901 she made her debut in the role of Barbarina in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at the Court Opera in Dresden , where she also performed in smaller roles until 1903, such as B. appeared as one of the sisters in William Schwenck Gilbert's and Arthur Sullivan's Der Mikado . In 1903 and 1904 she made guest appearances at the Grand Ducal Court Theater of Schwerin and then from 1905 to 1907 at the Ducal Court Theater in Altenburg and from 1907 to 1908 at the Mainz City Theater. She was used in pieces such as Tragaldabas by Eugen d'Albert in the role of Laura, in Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni in the role of Lola or in The Merry Widow by Franz Lehár in the role of Hannah. She was best known for her vocal freshness, verve and grace of her portrayal, as well as her versatility.
