Miriam Wettstein (* in Basel ) is a Swiss mezzo-soprano .

Life

Wettstein was born and raised in Basel. After graduating from high school , she studied singing at the Conservatoire de Lausanne with Katharina Begert . After completing her teaching diploma, she completed the opera studios "Gioco vocale" in Geneva and OVS in Zurich. Further studies were carried out with Elisabeth Glauser (Bern University of Music), which she still trains today. Miriam Wettstein attended master classes with Alain Garichot , Paris (scenic singing), Gérard Buquet , Paris (contemporary music), Elisabeth Glauser and Christa Siebert-Freund.

She appears regularly as a soloist in the field of chamber music and in various chamber music formations, e.g. B. with the Quartetto di Lugano, the Camerata Variabile, the Orchestra Perpetuum Mobile and other chamber music ensembles. She is particularly interested in the performance of contemporary works; She has interpreted works and sang world premieres by the contemporary Swiss composer Alfred Knüsel (* 1941) several times .

In May 2008 she appeared as a soloist in the opening concert of the IV International Lourié Days in Basel. She interpreted the vocal part in "Suite pour quatuor à cordes" (1926) by Arthur Lourié . In March 2009 she sang the world premiere of four songs by the composer Zoltan Almashi (* 1975) based on texts by Rose Ausländer , Moses Rosenkranz , Alfred Kittner and Paul Celan as part of the concert and lecture series Lemberg - Spiegel einer Stadt in Basel . In September 2010 she was the vocal soloist in Basel at the opening of the concert series for the 100th birthday of the contemporary Swiss composer Meinrad Schütter . Wettstein also sings as a soloist in choir concerts and church concerts, for example in 2010 with the Coro Misto di Locarno in Ascona and Massagno . She also often interprets contemporary music in the context of church music.

Occasionally Wettstein also took on stage roles: in 2004/2005 she sang the role of Pirate Jenny in Brecht / Weill's Die Dreigroschenoper in a production by Helmut Förnbacher at the Helmut Förnbacher Theater Company in Basel's Badischer Bahnhof .

Since 2004 Miriam Wettstein has been teaching as part of the postgraduate course in “Children's and Youth Choir Conducting”, which has been offered as a CAS at the Zurich University of Music since 2008 . She also teaches solo singing at the Malters Music School, LU.

Miriam Wettstein is the mother of two daughters. She lives in Lucerne .
