Miriam Lehmann-Haupt
Miriam Lehmann-Haupt (born November 19, 1904 in Berlin ; † August 3, 1981 in New York City ) was an Austrian actress and painter .
Life
Lehmann-Haupt trained as a painter and later as an actress. She was the daughter of the orientalist Carl Ferdinand Friedrich Lehmann-Haupt , Miriam's mother was a writer Therese Haupt (1864–1938). Her brother Hellmut (1903–1992) was an art historian and book scholar.
In the 1925/1926 season, Lehmann-Haupt had an engagement at the Hessian State Theater. She then played at the Städtische Theatern Leipzig until 1928 and at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna in 1928/1929 . There she worked with Max Reinhardt . In the Deutscher Bühnenjahrbuch she was last recorded in 1934 as being without engagement. On a list of the Reichsfilmkammer from 1938 she is listed as "probably non-Aryan". She may have gone into exile during the Nazi era .
In London, Lehmann-Haupt worked for the British Broadcasting Corporation . On Broadway she played "Frau Krueger" in cabaret from 1966 to 1969 and it was not until 1980 that she had a role in Uncle Vanya in the Troupe Theater .
Lehmann-Haupt last lived in Manhattan . She died after a long illness at the age of 76 and left two sons.
