Mirko Deflorian (born May 19, 1980 in Cavalese ) is an Italian ski racer who has competed for the Republic of Moldova since 2010 .

biography

Deflorian contested his first FIS race in December 1995, the first victory followed in April 1998. In the European Cup , he was at the start in December 1997 and has won four times so far. Deflorian drove his first World Cup race on February 28, 2004: In the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora , he also took World Cup points with 21st place. In his third World Cup race, the giant slalom in Val-d'Isère on December 12, 2004, he was fifth and a week later in the giant slalom on the Gran Risa in Alta Badia , sixth. In February 2005, he competed in the giant slalom the World Championship in Bormio , but was eliminated in the first round. In the World Cup he achieved no further top results in the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons. In March 2007 he was used for the last time in the World Cup.

On February 19, 2008, Deflorian tested positive for cocaine at the Italian Junior Championships . He was banned for this on December 15, 2008 by the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) retrospectively for 18 months after he had been acquitted by the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) in September. Since November 2009 he has been driving the European Cup and FIS races again. In August 2010, Mirko Deflorian took Moldovan citizenship. Since then he has competed for the Republic of Moldova and drove his first race for the new association in November 2010. As a Moldovan ski racer, he took part in World Cup races again for the first time since 2007, but remained without points for the entire 2010/11 season. At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen - his second World Cup after 2005 - he came 14th in the super combined. He finished the downhill in 33rd position, in the Super-G and in the giant slalom he was eliminated.
