Mirko Heid

Mirko Heid (born October 8, 1976 in Bonn ) is a German manager, former sports official and baseball player . From 2014 to 2019 he was President of the German Baseball and Softball Association (DBV). As an athlete, he took part in four European championships, one world championship and one Olympic qualifying tournament between 2003 and 2008.

education and profession

In 2004 Heid finished his studies in business administration at the University of Cologne and began his professional career at Stadtwerke Bonn GmbH . Athletic career

Heid began his baseball career in 1991 with the Bonn Capitals . With the exception of the 2001-2003 seasons, his entire career played there. Between 2001 and 2003 he played for the Cologne Dodgers . Heid has played in the Bundesliga baseball since 1995, primarily as a pitcher . He never succeeded in winning the German championship, although he was German runner-up four times ( 1999 , 2001 , 2002 and 2003 ). In contrast, his teams Bonn Capitals and the Cologne Dodgers won the German Cup twice and in 2003 the European Cup. In 2004 he was voted the best pitcher in the Bundesliga and in 2006 the best pitcher of the cup final. His first game for the German national team baseball , he played in 1999 in Heidenheim, an integral part of the team but he was until 2002. He participated in the European Championships in 2003 , 2005 and 2007 in part. In 2007 he took part in the World Cup in Taiwan and finished 7th with the German team. After the failed Olympic qualification for Beijing in 2008 , he ended his active career after the 2009 season and took over the voluntary coaching position of the Bonn Capitals baseball Bundesliga team. From 2010 to 2013 he acted as head coach and then in 2014 as sports director of Bonn Capitals. During this time he was able to lead the Bonn team several times into the semi-finals and among the top 20 clubs in Europe. After his active career as a player in 2009, the Bonn Capitals club “retired” his shirt number 24, so it will no longer be given to other players. He was the first player in the club to receive this honor.

Sports official

From 2004 until the end of his active national team career in 2008, Heid was the athletes spokesman for the German national baseball team. From 2006 to 2010 he was an elected member of the advisory board for the active members of the German Olympic Sports Confederation . In 2014 he was unanimously elected President of the German Baseball Association. He held this office until March 2019, but did not stand for re-election.
