The Baseball Bundesliga 2001 was the 18th season of the Baseball Bundesliga . The German champions became the Paderborn Untouchables , for which this was the prelude to a series of five championship titles in a row. In the final they prevailed against the Cologne Dodgers , for whom this meant the second final defeat in a row.

The defending champion Lokstedt Stealers crashed and could only win 9 of his 34 season games. This left only the last place and a year after the championship, relegation from the Bundesliga.

Regular season

In the two seasons North and South, the eight teams played four games against each other in the regular season. Then the best four and the last four teams played against each other twice, so that each team played 34 regular games.

The two best-placed teams of each season then qualified for the play-offs, in which the best-of-three mode was played.

1. Bundesliga North

As in the final of the German championship, Paderborn and Cologne fought for first place in the regular season, here with the better end for Cologne.

New to the Bundesliga were the Pulheim Gophers , who were promoted to the Bundesliga for the Holzwickede Joboxers . With the relegation the climber with the 4th place had nothing to do, this became reality for last year's champion Lokstedt Stealers as bottom of the table.

In the archival records, not every team recorded the intended number of 34 games. It is unclear why this deviation occurs; a change in the table situation would not have resulted from playing the missing games.

1st Bundesliga South

As in the two previous years, the Mannheim Tornados and Mainz Athletics again qualified for the play-offs as representatives of the Bundesliga South. This time the tornadoes won the season with only 2 defeats and thus the best statistics of all Bundesliga clubs.

The two promoted Saarlouis Hornets and Mannheim Amigos occupied the last two places, whereby the Mannheimers could not win a single one of their 28 season games, did not appear to "extend the season" and were relegated from the Bundesliga. With the participation of the Amigos in the Bundesliga 2001, for the first time since 1997 , two Mannheim teams were represented in the top baseball division.

As in the Bundesliga North, not all games were played in the south without this having an impact on the final table.

Play-offs

For the fourth time in a row since the Mannheim Tornados won the championship in 1997 , two teams from the Bundesliga North met in the final.

The Paderborn Untouchables were able to prevail in two games and thus celebrate their second championship.
