The baseball club Baldham Boars e. V. was founded in 1988 and is one of the oldest and most traditional baseball clubs in Bavaria .

Naming

Boar means boar in German. The founding members chose the name and the heraldic animal after the district of Ebersberg .

Venue

The Baldham Boars have played their home games on the Boars Field in the sports and leisure area Vaterstetten / Baldham , a suburb in the east of Munich , since they were founded until 2017 . After the construction of the elementary and middle school on the former club grounds, the Baldham Boars built the Boars Ballpark in 2017 on the sports grounds on the B304 (Wasserburger Landstrasse).

history

Founding year 1987/1988

In the spring of 1987, 10 students from the Vaterstetten high school traveled to the USA as part of an exchange program and attended a baseball game in Chicago. What they experienced there fascinated them so much that they played baseball back home. 16 players of the "Vat Rats" and "Bald Bones" decided on December 20, 1988 to found a baseball club. The name "Baldham Boars" was quickly found based on the heraldic animal of the district of Ebersberg.

First game operation in 1989

In the first season in 1989, the Baldham Boars team began playing in the Landesliga Süd and reached a respectable 6th place with 2-4 games.

1990-1999

The Boars celebrated their first successes the next year. They won the championship of the single-track state league with 12-2 victories and were promoted to the Bavarian League. After the number of members grew steadily, the Boars decided to found a junior team and a women's softball team: the "Baldham Banshees". In their first season they reached 5th place in the Bavarian League.

Having barely arrived in the higher class in 1991, the Boars had a remarkable record this season with 11-3 wins and 2nd place in the Bavarian League. The juniors instantly reached 2nd place with 5-3 successes and the Baldham Banshees took 5th place in the Bavarian League with 2-8 games.

Although the Baldham Boars reached first place in the table in 1992, level on points with the Grünwald Jesters with 11-3 wins, they lost in the decider against the Jesters and remained in second place in the Bayern League. The Boars Juniors achieved the first success in the club's history and won the Bavarian Championship. Of course, the women did not want to be inferior either and secured their best season so far with 4–5 games and 4th place in the Bayern League.

For the first time, four Baldham Boars teams started the season in 1993. The men 1 could not build on the successes of the previous year, but still reached the 3rd place in the Bavarian League with 18-10 wins. A second men's team was formed from the former juniors and took second place in the District League Group E with 5-3 successes in their first season. The women ended a difficult season in the Bayernliga with 3-21 games and 7th place. The newly founded youth team of the Boars has this season with 2-5 games the 4th place in the Bayernliga group south.

The Boars showed a clear upward trend in 1994 and took second place in the Bavarian League with 17-11 games. The 2nd team reached 3rd place in the district league group F with 2-6 games. The Baldham Banshees celebrated their greatest success so far in a syndicate with the Poing Rangers when they achieved the championship title of the national league with 17-3 wins. The youth also crowned an unbeaten season with 9 wins in the Bayernliga Gruppe Mitte with the championship title.

In 1995 the Boars had to stay in the Bavarian League for another season, with 18-10 games the men won 3rd place. Men 2 also reached 3rd place in the district league group C with 6-4 wins and qualified for the district league play-offs. With an even result of 6-6 successes, the Boars took 8th place. The women's team showed a clear upward trend, reaching 2nd place in the regional league group A with 5-2 wins. But also the youth ended a successful season in Bayernliga Group 3 with 4-4 games. A baseball field was created out of the meadow on which the Boars have played since they were founded.

After a 4th place in the Bayern League in 1996 with 19-9 wins, Men 1 secured promotion to the Regionalliga. The Boars also took 1st place at a tournament in Lippstadt. The second team secured with 7-1 successes the 2nd place in the district league group C. The Baldham Banshees celebrated their first title with the championship of the national league. The junior team was founded from the former youth and achieved 4th place in the Bayernliga group C with 3-6 games.

After the promotion in the previous year, the Baldham Boars were able to cause the biggest sensation this season in 1997: With 21-3 victories, the Boars stormed to the top of the regional league and also celebrated promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga South with the championship. At a tournament in Halle, the Boars also took 1st place. The men 2 merged this season with the Poing Rangers and reached 4th place in the district league. With the 5th place in the Bavarian League, the Baldham Banshees could no longer build on the successes of recent years. The Boars offspring convinced again with 7-2 games and a 2nd place in the regional league group C. For the first time a student team was founded.

Men 1 only spent one season in the 2nd Bundesliga in 1998, as this season the Boars achieved the greatest success in the club's history. The Boars celebrated the championship with 29-7 wins and rose to the top German league. But also the 1st place in the Charly Brown Cup and the 2nd place in the Bayern Cup completed a successful season. Men 2 also played a successful season with 6-4 wins and 3rd place in the district league group E. The Baldham Banshees ended their last season with 0-20 games and 6th place in the Bayernliga.

The first season in the 1st Bundesliga in 1999 ended the men 1 with 11-21 games and the 6th place. In the Bayern Cup, the Boars took 3rd place. Men 2 also played a successful season with 10-0 successes and qualified for the promotion round in the district league group F. After the 1st place with 2-0 wins, the men 2 celebrated promotion to the regional league. The youth took 3rd place in Bayernliga Group 3.

2000-2009

With a 6th place in 2000 in the 1st Bundesliga South with 13-21 games, the Boars secured relegation. At the Indoor European Cup in Going, the Boars celebrated 1st place and came 2nd in the Bayern Cup. In their first year in the regional league, men 2 fought for 4th place with 16-12 successes. The juniors also had a successful first round in group D with 3-1 games and first place. The juniors finished the 2nd round of the Champions League Group A with 0-3 games and 4th place. The youth finished round 1 in group D in 6th place. However, the team was able to improve and achieved 2nd place in the Champions League Group E in the second round.

For the third time in a row, in 2001, men took 6th place with 10-22 games in the 1st Bundesliga South and came 2nd in the Bayern Cup. Men 2, however, celebrated their greatest success so far with the championship of the state league. Juniors: 4th place. With a 2nd place in the preliminary round, the youth was able to achieve 3rd place in the final round of the Bavarian Championship.

After four years in the 1st Bundesliga, the Boars relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga with 6-28 games and 8th place in 2002. Nevertheless, the Boars managed to win another tournament at the Charly Brown Cup, as well as 2nd place at the Indoor European Cup in Going. Men 2 fought successfully in the Landesliga Süd and finished 4th with 17-11 games. The BBQ Boars, the Baldham Boars' recreational softball team, was founded.

With 13-15 games the men reached the 5th place in 2003 in the 2nd Bundesliga South. Once again, the men achieved second place at the Indoor European Cup in Going. The 2nd team repeated the previous year's placement with 15-13 games and 4th place in the regional league. The juniors reached 2nd place in the Landesliga Group C.

After a successful season in 2004, in which the Boars won the championship with 24-12 wins, promotion to the 1st Bundesliga was achieved. Men 2: Landesliga Nord, Juniors: 2nd place Bayernliga.

After just one year in the 1st Bundesliga, the Boars had to relegate back to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2005 with 4-36 games and 8th place. The second team achieved promotion to the Bayern League with a 2nd place in the Landesliga Süd. Foundation of the men's 3 district league. Foundation of Tossball students and Teeball children, both Bavarian champions straight away.

After 8-20 games and 7th place, the Boars were relegated to the Regionalliga Südost in 2006. Men 2 Bayern League, Men 3 District League. Teeball: Bavarian champion.

As champions of the Regionalliga Südost with 20-8 successes, the Boars achieved promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2007. Although the Boars only sent one men's team into play, the Boars built on the youth with 5 teams in the junior division. The juniors qualified for the national league championship round and the tea ballers "Boarlies" became Bavarian champions for the third time in a row.

After only one season in the 2nd Bundesliga, the Boars were relegated to the Regionalliga Südost in 2008 with 5-23 games and 8th place. The newly formed men 2 reached a record of 6-6 games in the district league. While the youth achieved promotion to the Bavarian League with the championship in the regional league, the students qualified live pitch for the championship round and the tea ballers became Bavarian champions for the fourth time, albeit only unofficially.

Back in the Regionalliga Südost, the Boars achieved fourth place with 15-13 games in 2009 and remained a little below their expectations. The men 2 were now able to find their way around the district league better and achieved a respectable season with a record of 8-4 games. While the youth in the Bavarian League showed a decent performance with 5th place, the live pitch pupils were able to qualify for the championship round again. For the first time, the Boars sent two tossball teams into the race.

2010-2019

The second season in the Regionalliga Südost 2010 did not bring a step forward either, because the Boars finished fifth with 14-14 games. However, men 2 qualified with 7-5 games and third place for promotion to the Landesliga Süd. For the first time, the Boars sent six junior teams into play and again founded a girls' softball team, the Baldham Black Hawks. The Livepitch pupils qualified for the championship round again, and a second Livepitch team also played for the first time. The live pitchers also remained successful in indoor tournaments with their first victory at the Golden Ball in Gröbenzell. In order to do justice to the growing play of the youth teams, the Boars opened a softball field next to the main square with the support of the community of Vaterstetten.

The Baldham Boars repeated their record of last year with 14-14 games in 2011 and finished sixth in the Regionalliga Südost. The men 2 could achieve the relegation of the Landesliga Süd with 6-24 matches. The Boars sent five junior teams to play again.

After four years in the Regionalliga Südost, the Boars were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga South in 2012 with 20-8 games. During the off-season, the Boars Livepitcher won the German indoor championship in Gauting for the first time. The students also remained successful at the 89ers Trophy in Rosenheim. After qualifying for the championship round, the live pitchers also became Bavarian runners-up. The Boars students won the Bavarian Indoor Championships for the first time.

For the sixth time since the club was founded, the Baldham Boars played in the 2nd Bundesliga South in 2013 and achieved fifth place with 8-16 games. The Boars Livepitcher won the German indoor championship in Gauting and the Rosenheim 89ers Trophy for the second time in a row. The students repeated a successful season and became Bavarian runner-up.

With 1-23 games and seventh place, the Boars were relegated to the Regionalliga Südost in 2014. The youth won the Red Lions Cup in Schwaig for the first time. The students won the Bavarian Indoor Championships for the second time.

The Boars reached 7th place in 2015 with 7-21 games and were relegated to the Bayern League. After the German indoor runner-up, the youth won the Schwaig Red Lions Cup for the second time in a row. For the first time, two youth teams were registered for play. With the Bavarian runner-up, the youth qualified for the German championship and reached 9th place. The Boars youth became Bavarian indoor runners-up.

In the double-track Bayernliga, the Boars were group winners in 2016 after the preliminary round with 16-4 games. With 6-4 games, the Boars finished third in the playoffs. The youth won the Schwaig Red Lions Cup for the third time in a row and became Bavarian runner-up for the second time in a row.

A new elementary and middle school was built on the baseball field that the Baldham Boars called their home since 1988. Due to the new building, the men had to play all games in the 2017 season as away games. The men took second place in the Bayernliga Nord with 12-4 games and qualified for the playoffs. With a record of 6-6 games, the men finished third in the playoffs. Meanwhile, the new Boars Ballpark was being built on the sports grounds on the B304. The youth won the Schwaig Red Lions Cup for the fourth time in a row. The U-16 team of the Black Hawks became Bavarian indoor runners-up and German indoor runners-up with a syndicate with the Grünwald Jesters and Erding Mallards.

During the off-season, the Baldham Boars took third place in the Bavarian Indoor Championships in Schwaig. Due to delays in the construction of the new field, the Boars were only able to hold away games in 2018. With 14-6 games, the Boars finished second in the Bayernliga Süd and qualified for the playoffs. The Boars, unbeaten until the last match day, were able to afford the only defeat against the Fürth Pirates, secured a record of 9-1 games with a win in the second game and won the Bavarian Championship. After 2014, the Boars achieved their seventh promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. The juniors qualified for the final with just one win and became Bavarian runner-up. The U-16 syndicate of the Black Hawks came third at the German Indoor Championship with the Grünwald Jesters and Erding Mallards.

The Baldham Boars played the 2019 season in the 2nd Bundesliga Southeast in the new Boars Ballpark. With a record of 16-12 games, the Baldham Boars reached 3rd place. The U-13 student softball team took 3rd place at the Bavarian Championship in Freising.
