The Baseball Bundesliga 1989 was the sixth season of the Baseball Bundesliga . As in all Bundesliga seasons played to date, the Mannheim Tornados won the title of German baseball champion , the opponents in the final were the runner-up in the regular season, the Cologne Cardinals .


Regular season

Even in 1989, the usual picture with the Mannheim Tornados and the Cologne Cardinals appeared at the top of the Bundesliga baseball. The Ladenburg Romans, who are competing in the Bundesliga for the first time, missed their first play-off participation against the Berlin Challengers and the Cologne Dodgers in the tiebreaker.

Play-offs

In the play-offs, the two Cologne clubs, the Cardinals and Dodgers, faced each other in the semifinals, which the Cardinals won 2-0. The Mannheim Tornados had more trouble reaching the final against the Berlin Challengers. After a 0: 7 opening defeat, the two following games were clearly won, the decisive third game of the semi-final series even 42: 4.

In the final, the tornadoes also came back after another opening defeat and secured their 6th championship title with a narrow 5-4 win in the decisive game.
